The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Anger Over Sizing Modifications
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its size classifications for women's and children's garments but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Social Media Response
Many shoppers and sellers are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
The platform stated the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to review their products and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Changes
Previously, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she stated.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, located in England, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she stated.
Service Background
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: last year, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
